Spice Affair-Indian Indulgence Hits Beverly Hills

10 1K views

It’s been a while since I’ve had Indian food; so when Spice Affair in Beverly Hills reached out to me about coming in to try their food, I was super excited!

One of my nightly rituals involves scrolling through Instagram before finally dozing off to sleep (terrible! I know), and on one of those nights my feed was filled with delicious pictures of Indian food! I guess everyone had Indian that night. I went to bed dreaming of Indian food, and next thing you know it was all I could think about.

When the time came for me to visit Spice Affair I could barely contain myself. The name alone was appealing to me because I love my spices!! Walking in, I felt like I had been transported into a really grand ballroom with gorgeous earth tones. They had a beautiful wall of water in the main room which staring at it makes you feel very relaxed. The whole mood was very indulgent, and I couldn’t wait to jump into the meal.

Spice Affair describes their menu as an adventurous approach to Indian cuisine. Diners can expect a non traditional mixture of spices in traditional Indian dishes, as well as contemporary interpretations of California cuisine using traditional Indian spices.

I could really see that mix of Californian and Indian cuisine in the artichoke hearts and cauliflower dishes. Both of these were delicious and had those strong Indian flavors.

The menu was developed by one of India’s top chefs, Nimish Bhatia and Anupam Bhatia. “Indian cuisine requires patience since most dishes are simmered using a very slow fire,” states Nimish. “In order to keep the traditional Indian flavors in tact, spice levels need to be properly balanced which generates those exotic attributes.” Anupam adds, “We also take advantage of the bounty of produce and ingredients found in Southern California, and create our own modern interpretations of dishes that you would not normally find at an Indian restaurant, yet still possess the ever important Indian sensibility.”

Dum Chicken BiryaniBoneless chicken, basmati rice, broiled saffron strands.

This is such a beautiful dish with an amazing presentation! The biryani is covered in dough, and then right when you are ready to eat the waiter will cut into dough releasing such a delicious smell!

Everything about Spice Affair was indulgent and delicious! I loved the non traditional approaches to the dishes, but really appreciated that the Indian flavors were still present. Definitely fixed my Indian craving for sure!

One thing I miss about living in a large city is having several Indian restaurants nearby. I’ll have to remember this place next time I’m in SoCal.
